SPORTSMANSHIP – what does it mean for me?
- I know and play by the rules and regulations of the match (& game)
- I introduce myself to my opponent before play commences
- I shake hands after the match and congratulate my opponent
- I am friendly and polite off the court and do not bad mouth other players
- I treat officials, umpires, lines people and ball boys with respect even if I think they have made a mistake
- During the warm-up, I hit balls with reasonable pace and variety to allow my opponent to warm-up and practice
- I return balls directly to the server under the net for the start of the next point
- I return the ball to the server when the server has turned around
- I don’t question calls within 30cm (300m/1foot) of the line
- If unsure of a call, I call it good as required by the rules of tennis, unless the opponent reverses it
- If the serve is out and is accidentally returned into the net, I clear it rapidly so the server’s rhythm is not disturbed
- When playing a much weaker opponent, I act courteously and try not to overly embarrass or demean my opponent
- I don’t ask spectators, coaches or anyone else to make a line or net call
- I compliment my opponent on good shots
- I don’t glare or stare at anyone whenever I am in trouble
- I don’t walk slowly between points to stall or anger my opponent
- I don’t tank, or give anything less than my best efforts, not even for one point

In general,
I respect the game, the people that play, administer, spectate and show any interest in the game.
I don’t act in a manner that causes someone to not enjoy the game, or bring the game into disrepute.
